A Letter from the Trauma Conference Chair:

Marya Abuarqoub
Dear Delegate, It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the 20th International Trauma Conference 2025, hosted by the Imperial College School of Medicine’s Surgical Society. Inspired by the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) course, the Trauma Conference began with the aim of providing unparalleled trauma education to undergraduate medical students at Imperial College London. Since then, it has grown into one of the largest student-led surgical conferences in the UK, welcoming an increasing number of delegates from across the world. To serve as Chair in this milestone year is both an honour and a highlight of my time at Imperial. This year, our programme includes 10 lectures, 8 interactive workshops, and for the first time, a multidisciplinary panel discussion bringing together speakers from across several healthcare fields. We are honoured to be joined by our keynote speaker, Dr Christos Christou, International President of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), whose unparalleled experience in humanitarian crises will provide a unique insight into the realities of trauma care at the frontlines. Our theme for 2025, “Currents of Crisis: The Trauma of Tomorrow,” recognises that trauma care is constantly evolving. It is shaped by conflict, disaster, innovation, and the changing needs of patients and healthcare systems worldwide. From the pressures of mass-casualty events to the opportunities presented by new technologies and international collaboration, trauma medicine is defined by currents of change. This year’s programme will explore these forces and consider how we, as the next generation of clinicians, can learn, adapt, and prepare to deliver trauma care in an uncertain future. We are delighted to be collaborating for the first time with Casualty Resources and Claribone, while continuing to expand the scope of our teaching through workshops supported by a variety of international and Imperial faculty. This year’s sessions will cover fields including reconstructive surgery, emergency medicine, and orthopaedics, giving you the opportunity to develop practical skills across the breadth of trauma care. We are also proud, for the first time, to be recognised closely with the International Association of Student Surgical Societies (IASSS), further strengthening the global student surgical community. We are enormously privileged to have the continued support of our Patron, Professor Kenneth D. Boffard, an internationally renowned trauma surgeon from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. His career and mentorship have not only shaped trauma care worldwide but also continue to inspire the spirit of this conference. In his honour, the Professor Kenneth D. Boffard Poster Competition remains a highlight of the weekend, with the winning submission considered for publication in the Frontiers in Surgery journal. We are also deeply grateful to our sponsors and academic partners, whose support makes it possible to deliver such a rich programme to our delegates. We sincerely hope you enjoy what promises to be an inspiring and unforgettable weekend of learning, discussion, and collaboration at the International Trauma Conference 2025. Marya A. Y.
